CHEPANG Unleashes New Album Jhyappa via Relapse Records!
The explosive release of CHEPANG’s latest offering, “Jhyappa”, their debut with Relapse Records.
“Concise and bloody… the album… shows off their blasting insanity, strategic deployment of noise, and an incredible amount of groove.” – Decibel Magazine.
Originating from Queens, New York, with roots in Kathmandu, Nepal, CHEPANG has always taken a unique approach to their music. They refer to their sound as “immigrindcore,” drawing inspiration from Nepali pop songs and performing in Nepali while embracing their immigrant identities. “Jhyappa” explores themes of self-immolation as a means for self-preservation, packaged in a ferocious grindcore sound that resonates with the band’s quest for redemption.
The album was expertly recorded and mixed by Kevin Bernsten (Full Of Hell, Integrity, ILSA) at Developing Nations and The Magpie Cage Recording Studios (for drums), with mastering by James Plotkin (Electric Wizard, Thou, Gridlink).
You can stream “Jhyappa” HERE and find it on all major streaming platforms HERE.

Guitarist Kshitiz Moktan describes the lyrics of “Jhyappa” as “hardcore Nepalese,” adding, “This record is more personal… about trying to relearn everything about yourself, releasing all your negative energy inside you.” The album’s artwork, created by Masato Chaos, draws on themes of self-immolation, emphasizing that it is not about any religion or government but rather an internal struggle: “Everyone has their struggles, in their own head and in life, but the only one that can fix that is you… One has to be closer to one’s self spiritually to defeat this and come out victorious.”
New York City culture is woven throughout CHEPANG’s music and identity. “All of us have lived half of our lives here. We live here, we see everything, positive and negative, so we wanted to have some kind of New York [vibe],” Moktan explains. The band finds inspiration in the vibrant diversity of the city, which “is a melting pot of cultures” that fuels their motivation and pride.
With a history of performing globally, CHEPANG’s unique grind has already made an impact from Obscene Extreme in Czechia to Maryland Deathfest. Now, the band is set to showcase their sound to audiences worldwide once again.
Musically, the band aims to return to their roots with “Jhyappa”, reminiscent of their cult-classic 2016 EP, “Lathi Charge”. While maintaining the sonic and structural elements of their earlier work, “Jhyappa” introduces a new metallic edge. The album features nine tracks that deliver a brutal package in under twenty minutes, blending intense blast beats with crushing low-end and heavy guitar work.
Band Lineup:
– Bhotey Gore – vocals
– Wreckless Life – noise
