Arizona death metal outfit ETERNAL has unleashed their highly anticipated full-length album Cryptic Lust in North America through Carbonized Records. The band first burst onto the scene in 2022 with their debut EP Forsaken Memories, which captured a raw yet promising sound, blending thrashy riffs with melodic undertones. Building on that foundation, they dropped their follow-up EP Faceless Evil in 2023, introducing a revamped lineup and a more old-school death metal vibe. Drawing influence from legends like Death and Gorguts, Faceless Evil maintained the band’s melodic signature while steering toward a heavier, grittier sound.
Cryptic Lust, recorded at Necrotic Echoes Studio, marks a major step forward for ETERNAL. Initially released in March through Dutch label Raw Skull Recordz, it’s been hailed by critics as a standout in the death metal genre. Metal Forces called it “a solid and fun old-school death metal release” with “enough stomp and bite to keep you entertained.” Metalopsy praised the band as “the 2024 equivalent of early Entombed,” noting the album’s buzzsaw guitar tones and brutal vocals, while Resident Sound raved about the “gothic horror gutturals” and “crunchy tones” that blend the best of old-school death and thrash metal.
