Rorschach Test’s Electrifying Comeback

After the release of their critically acclaimed album “Fallen” and attention-grabbing videos featured on MTV Live’s “Metal Thrashing Madness,” Rorschach Test is ready to embark on a tour with Genitorturers.

James Baker shares his thoughts, “Going back on the road with Genitorturers fits with Rorschach Test’s emphasis on positive mental health and fighting stigma as Gen stands for freedom of speech, and expression…”

Further recounting their shared history, he added, “Rorschach Test is coming back home to a place where it all started… The influence that Genitorturers has had on the entire scene is undeniable and profound… Gen could see that we were stressing out…she quickly made a phone call… A few moments later our keyboardist was on his way to Trent Reznor’s New Orleans home to borrow some keys from him.”

Rorschach Test: A Journey Through Music and Transformation

James Baker, founder of Rorschach Test, began his musical journey in the church, mastering hymns and gospel music. Despite rock being forbidden in his youth, his rebellion led him to embrace rock and roll, culminating in the release of “Unclean” on Slipdisc/Mercury Records in 1998.

Now embracing his faith, Baker serves as a hospice chaplain, focusing on empowering communities through his nonprofit record label, Unlabeled Artists. Full Well Recording Studio became the creative home for Rorschach Test, with productions led by Mike Bolenbach and Kolby, capturing authentic soundscapes.

Rorschach Test resurfaced in May 2024 with a new lineup and their single “Fallen,” followed by “Belated.” Revolver described their sound as “a cybernetic organism with an overlay of human flesh.”

Their lyrics tackle growth, dark themes, and human struggles, encouraging liberation through metal music’s lens. In 2024, Baker secured copyright on “Unclean”, remastered, and released it on December 13th. The album’s intense guitar riffs, heavy beats, and raw vocals pushed boundaries and explored spiritual conflict.

Baker recalls Unclean’s tour: “I would look out at the crowd and see steampunks next to Slayer fans, next to ghost white vampire children. All were there for the songs.”

A landmark in industrial music, “Unclean” remains a testament to the band’s creativity and defiance of norms. Baker shares, “Many fans said the album made them feel heard, understood, and connected,” highlighting its impact in saving lives through its powerful themes.
