Rome-based electronic metal project MASTER BOOT RECORD (MBR) has just dropped their latest single, “CPU”. The track is part of their upcoming album HARDWAREZ, set to release on October 11th via Metal Blade Records. This marks the third full-length release for MBR, led by multi-instrumentalist Victor Love, also known as Vittorio D’Amore.
HARDWAREZ dives into the intersection of technology and humanity, showcasing nine intense tracks that blend heavy metal, electronic elements, and retro computer vibes. It follows MBR’s previous albums, Personal Computer (2022) and Floppy Disk Overdrive (2020). Known for creating the soundtrack to the cyberpunk game VirtuaVerse, Love has built a unique style that mixes elements of industrial, synth pop, and classic metal.
In an innovative approach, Love composed HARDWAREZ by live-streaming his desktop on YouTube, allowing fans to witness the creation process. He explains, “The first song I wrote was ‘CPU,’ and while other tracks have different styles, ‘CPU’ laid the foundation for the album’s sound.” He also experimented with live guitar overdubs, which added a new dynamic to the mix, creating a blend of synth and real guitars that deliver a powerful, energetic sound both in the studio and during live performances.
The name HARDWAREZ combines “hardware” with “warez,” a term for pirated software that influenced Love’s music. Growing up in the ’90s, Love drew inspiration from video games, demoscene music, and the metal and grunge scenes. With HARDWAREZ, Love mixes these influences, creating an album that fuses chiptune, metal, and classical music, all produced using computers and hardware.
The album will be available in various formats, including CD, digital, and vinyl. Fans can choose from color variants like “Hard Disk,” “Computer Terminal Green,” and more.

MASTER BOOT RECORD will also hit the road this fall for their HARDWAREZ tour, starting in San Diego on September 25th and traveling across the U.S. and Europe, with stops in Vancouver, London, Paris, and beyond.
