Lisbon-based rock ensemble MISS LAVA is excited to announce the release of their new album, Under A Black Sun, set to drop on April 25th via Small Stone Recordings. This upcoming full-length marks a significant milestone for the band, coinciding with their 20th anniversary celebration. Today, they launched the first single from the album and opened preorders, giving fans a taste of what’s to come.
Singer Johnny Lee describes the album as a foray into more profound emotional themes: “It’s a pretty intense record. Our life experiences over the past years have made us delve into a darker matter. We explored new territories and had a blast creating this album.”
Under A Black Sun showcases the band’s sonic evolution, brilliantly captured in part thanks to the collaboration with drummer Pedro Gonçalves and trusted engineer Miguel “Veg” Marques. The album was mixed by Steve Lehane and mastered by Chris Goosman.
Reflecting on the band’s journey, guitarist K. Raffah reminisces, “It has been a hell of a ride since we started rehearsing in a small studio in Lisbon back in 2005. Having this record come out twenty years later with a partner like Small Stone is the best thing we could wish for. Now we just need to get out there and play these songs live everywhere we can!”
The album’s title track, unveiled today, explores darker influences, as Lee explains: “This song is about falling under a dark influence and the duality of this situation. With guest contributions from Miguel “Veg” Marques and Alexandra Quintas “Bebé,” the album features a diverse range of sounds. Stunning artwork by João Filipe complements the musical journey.

MISS LAVA has a history of captivating live performances across the UK, Spain, Germany, Portugal, and even a special show at the legendary Whisky a Go-Go in Los Angeles.
