The orchestral doom quintet from Vancouver, British Columbia, TRIBUNAL, makes a powerful return with their second album, “In Penitence And Ruin”. This elegy takes listeners even deeper into the depths of sorrow and despair.

Following their 2023 debut, “The Weight Of Remembrance”, which garnered notable praise and set high expectations, TRIBUNAL’s latest work has been eagerly anticipated by Decibel Magazine and many fans alike. The band’s meticulous craft is evident throughout this expansive opus, echoing through vast, forgotten halls.

As a fully realized quintet, TRIBUNAL has expanded their sound on “In Penitence And Ruin”, showcasing an evolved cohesion and maturity. The album intertwines mournful strings, haunting keyboards, and fate-like tolling percussion to bolster its imposing monolithic foundation of dirges and funereal melodies. These tracks form a conceptual cycle, contemplating justice and punishment, focusing on a remorseful Penitent unable to escape past deeds. The emotive vocal contrasts between Soren Mourne’s soulful singing and Etienne Flinn’s tortured growls lead listeners through a singular journey into darkness, lit only by faint regrets.

“In Penitence And Ruin” stands as a bold exploration of timeless human flaws, crafting a resounding elegy where beauty and ruin converge seamlessly. It’s a compelling listen for fans of bands like Candlemass, Blood Ceremony, My Dying Bride, and more.

Produced by TRIBUNAL and Jesse Gander at Rain City Recorders, the album boasts additional vocals by Rory Say. It was mastered by Greg Chandler, with cover art and lettering by Soren Mourne, and completed by layout from Chimere Noire and photography by Sav Bagshaw.

The band shares about the lead single: “‘Armoured In Shadow’ is a raw expression of the wounds left behind by what the Penitent has done and the world-shattering power of trauma. The sound of the song lies at the heart of our influences, with both epic doom leads and mournful death riffs blending under soaring cleans and anguished screams, culminating in possibly the most heartbreaking and hard-hitting chorus of the album.”
