Chicago’s own industrial noise rock trio, BURNDY, has released their self-titled debut full-length album today, unveiling a magnetic fusion of genres that defy conventional categorization. You can now experience the album in its entirety, streaming worldwide.

What is BURNDY? In this unique blend of sound, BURNDY signifies “slightly burned around the edges,” capturing the essence of their audacious creativity. The all-female trio from Chicago combines industrial, noise, and post-punk elements, featuring Jessie Ambriz (Starless, Girl Activity) on bass, Sally Sachs on bassoon, and Megan Emish (BLOODYMINDED) on electric ukulele and vocals. Their music propels forward with intense electronic beats, static eruptions, and rhythmic pulses.

Recorded at Electrical Audio and Hypercube Studios, BURNDY’s album was engineered and mixed by Sanford Parker, co-produced by Megan Emish and Parker, and mastered by Collin Jordan at Boiler Room Mastering. Available in vinyl and digital formats, you can find your copy on BURNDY’s official Bandcamp HERE.

“The Origins of BURNDY” Formed in the summer of 2018, BURNDY emerged from Megan Emish’s call to her Chicago friends: “Hey, Chicago girlfriends! Any of you play any instruments and want to seriously make some ‘difficult’ (aka noisy/angry/challenging) music together, with the goal of eventually playing out? PM me, and let’s do it! (Or at least start to figure out how to do it!)” Sally Sachs responded, “Angry death metal bassoon?”—and the band’s journey began. Through trial and experimentation with various sounds and setups, BURNDY was officially born.

“The Sound of BURNDY” Raw, volatile, and richly experimental, BURNDY draws inspiration from the dark experimentalism of Coil, the sharp force of Cop Shoot Cop, the bleak despair of Joy Division, and the abrasive spirit of Big Black. They forge these influences into a distinctive identity that wrestles with themes of power, self-doubt, manipulation, and revenge. Their music, characterized by pounding basslines, jarring feedback, and vivid vocals, coupled with atmospheric soundscapes, commands attention.

What are critics saying?

Decibel praised BURNDY’s single “Static,” illustrating their unconventional approach to Chicago’s rich tradition in noisy industrial rock: “…is a slow builder, that’s terse and nervous with big Joy Division energy and a side of Sonic Youth. BURNDY’s unique lineup… creates a dark, paranoid vibe on the song with minimal instrumentation.”

Metal Digest acknowledged BURNDY’s complex blend of unsettling noise and captivating rhythm: “BURNDY mixes unsettling noise with compelling groove. The rhythm section carries a mood and a bounce as the central motif in each song. Then noise creates the vibe that something isn’t right despite how nice the rhythm is.”

Dive into the world of BURNDY and experience what promises to be one of the most striking new sounds from Chicago’s music scene!
