Powered by relentless innovation, WITHIN THE RUINS continues to captivate audiences globally. The Western Massachusetts quartet — Joe Cocchi (guitar), Kevin McGuill (drums), Paolo Galang (bass, clean vocals), and Steve Tinnon (lead vocals) — delivers a powerful musical experience, blending intricate rhythms and riveting storytelling. Their unique sound has earned them millions of streams, sold-out tours, and praise from notable outlets like Alternative Press and Loudwire.
Reflecting on the creation of Phenomena II, guitarist Joe Cocchi recalls, “We had written a handful of songs, and we were searching for inspiration. We wanted to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Phenomena because it was a pinnacle point of our career. I wrote a demo that reminded [vocalist] Steve [Tinnon] of Phenomena. So, it was his idea to create Phenomena II. The styles really aligned in terms of the unique guitar effects and the themes where each track tells a story from a comic book character’s point-of-view.”

Having released seven albums, WITHIN THE RUINS remains at the forefront of deathcore, combining cinematic and progressive elements that deliver a mesmerizing auditory experience. As described by various reviewers:
Metal Hammer notes, “WITHIN THE RUINS are seven albums in and absolutely embracing deathcore’s more cinematic, progressive elements… striking a balance between furious, stomping beats and nimble, technical guitar lines that have an air of the neoclassical about them.”
New Noise Magazine praises the album: “The album is composed perfectly, and the music tells a story… one of the best albums I have heard in a very long time. Go listen and experience the phenomenon.”
Metal Injection simply states, “Proggy deathcore for all!”
This Day In Metal highlights the uniqueness of their sound, suggesting the album could be “the perfect soundtrack whilst you’re playing a video game.”
With widespread acclaim from Metal Epidemic, Devolution Magazine, and Hotel Hobbies, fans of progressive music should definitely give Phenomena II a listen.
Moshville Times calls it “A must-listen for any fan of ‘core or progressive music in general.”
Metal Digest appreciates their powerful musical narrative, stating, “Alien tech death leads accompany groovy modern rhythms while angry hardcore vocal stylings keep the proceedings moving… Keen observers will quickly notice the lead guitar playing the motif from the 1990s X-Men theme song. The album seems to be an ode to heroes and the hardship of that life. The music is heavy enough to properly convey that message.”
