LEGIONS OF DOOM Unveils New Album “The Skull 3,” Honoring Eric Wagner’s Legacy

On September 13th, LEGIONS OF DOOM will release their highly anticipated album, The Skull 3, via Tee Pee Records. This album marks a significant chapter for the band, emerging from the shadows of The Skull and pushing into new territory. Today, they’ve dropped the album’s first single and opened up preorders, setting the stage for a powerful debut.

The Skull 3 is more than just another album; it’s a tribute to the late Eric Wagner, whose influence is felt throughout the record. Wagner, known for his work with The Skull, Trouble, and Blackfinger, passed away in 2021, leaving behind a legacy that LEGIONS OF DOOM has embraced and carried forward. Guitarist Lothar Keller and bassist Ron Holzner, both former members of The Skull and Trouble, took the unfinished material intended for The Skull’s third album and reimagined it under the LEGIONS OF DOOM banner.

Joining Keller and Holzner are drummer Henry Vasquez (Saint Vitus, Pentagram), guitarist Scott Little (Leadfoot), and vocalists Karl Agell (Blind-era Corrosion of Conformity) and Scott Reagers (Saint Vitus). Together, they have crafted an album that pays homage to Wagner’s memory while also forging a new path for themselves.

Holzner recalls how the project came together: “Eric had a file on his computer labeled ‘New Skull Record’ with lyrics he had written. After his passing, his family shared those files with me. I used those lyrics to complete the songs, even adding some of my own on tracks like ‘Lost Soul.’ This album feels like a collaboration with Eric, even beyond the grave.”

The album’s lead single, “All Good Things,” stands as a testament to this collaboration. Featuring Wagner’s haunting lyrics, the song speaks of hope and redemption amid sorrow. Agell, who took on the challenge of singing Wagner’s words, describes it as “a rebirth,” with the song capturing the essence of LEGIONS OF DOOM’s mission.

The Skull 3 blends the classic doom sound with fresh energy, making it both a continuation of The Skull’s legacy and a bold new start for LEGIONS OF DOOM. The band is not simply paying tribute—they’re carrying the torch forward with vigor and determination. The album also features guest appearances by Sanford Parker on Moog and Alex Johnson on steel guitar, adding depth to the already rich soundscape.

Ahead of the album’s release, the band is also putting out a limited-edition EP, All Good Things, on August 23rd. The EP includes the title track and a cover of Deep Purple’s “Into The Fire,” recorded with a lineup that includes Scott Little and the late Reed Mullin of Corrosion of Conformity.

LEGIONS OF DOOM will hit the road this fall, with a series of live shows to support The Skull 3. Their tour kicks off with a performance at Desertfest NYC’s Pre-Party on September 12th and continues with stops in Massachusetts, North Carolina, and Texas.
