Introducing BLOOD MONOLITH: New Band from Nails, Ulthar, Undeath, and Genocide Pact Set to Release Debut LP “The Calling Of Fire” on May 16th; “Prayer To Crom” Single and Preorders Available Now

Profound Lore Records is thrilled to announce the formation of BLOOD MONOLITH, a new death metal powerhouse comprised of members from Nails, Undeath, Ulthar, Genocide Pact, and other prominent bands within the extreme metal underground.
Established in 2023 by guitarist and vocalist Shelby Lermo (Nails, Ulthar) after leaving Vastum, BLOOD MONOLITH aims to forge a sound that is “even uglier, weirder, and more aggressive,” rooted in the vibrant Washington DC/Northern Virginia metal scene. The lineup came together quickly, with guitarist Tommy Wall (Undeath) joining Lermo, followed by bassist Nolan (Genocide Pact, Shitstorm) and drummer Aidan Tydings-Lynch (Deliriant Nerve, Brain Tourniquet).
The band’s location plays a crucial role in shaping their sound; the area’s history of violence and rebellion serves as a constant inspiration for their music. The album title, “The Calling Of Fire”, symbolizes a dual summoning of rage—both internal and external—to confront the pervasive, towering evil. The result is a sonic experience that hits with the impact of a daylight assault.
BLOOD MONOLITH distinguishes itself from the array of similar death metal acts with its unique concept and aesthetic. While drawing from their punk and grindcore roots, the band delivers relentless death metal that echoes both classic influences like Morbid Angel and Cannibal Corpse, alongside modern innovators such as Defeated Sanity and Dead Congregation.
The album was engineered by Shelby Lermo and Matt Michel (Goetia, Left Cross, Antichrist Siege Machine), who also mixed the tracks, while Adam Tucker at Signaturetone Recordings (Ulthar, Maul, Obsequiae) handled the mastering. The cover art, created by the legendary Nick Blinko of Rudimentary Peni, encapsulates the chaotic and extreme nature of “The Calling Of Fire”, presenting a brutally concise expression of nihilism in an unforgiving world.
Regarding the first single, Lermo states, “‘Prayer To Crom’ is the first song Tommy and I composed for this project, and I think it gave us a laser focus on where we should take the rest of the album. It is a mission statement, both musically and lyrically – a sword cleaving a path to annihilation.”
