The Queens punk veterans continue their member-curated EP series with a lost Killing Time track before launching a September headline run featuring Driveways and Grave Secrets.
Bayside has opened another chapter of its ongoing archival EP series with Bark at the Moon, a five-track collection curated by bassist Nick Ghanbarian that brings the previously vinyl-only Killing Time B-side “Don’t Come Easy” to digital listeners.
The Queens punk band’s summer series has allowed individual members to assemble their own collections from Bayside’s catalog while also recovering songs from the sessions for 2011’s Killing Time that had never received a digital release. Bark at the Moon continues that format with material spanning The Walking Wounded, Shudder and Killing Time.
“Don’t Come Easy” carries particular history for the band. According to Ghanbarian, it was actually the first song Bayside wrote during the Killing Time sessions and was initially considered strong enough to potentially introduce the album.
“‘Don’t Come Easy’ is the first song we wrote from the Killing Time sessions,” Ghanbarian recalls. “I remember being really happy with it and thinking it was going to be a lead single, but after writing more songs for Killing Time, it shaped up to be a bit different. The album ended up having more fast and aggressive songs so the blue collar storyline of ‘Don’t Come Easy’ didn’t fit in with the rest of the album by then. It was a tough decision, but we knew it would be released eventually — and here we are!”
Its eventual appearance on Bark at the Moon gives listeners a look at a different path Killing Time could have taken during its development. The song centers on a young man’s search for identity and direction, with vocalist Anthony Raneri delivering the character-driven narrative over the band’s punk and post-hardcore foundation.
The EP also includes “Duality” and “(Pop)Ular SciencE” from 2007’s The Walking Wounded, along with “I Can’t Go On” and “Moceanu” from 2008’s Shudder.
Bark at the Moon follows two earlier entries in Bayside’s member-curated series. Drummer Chris Guglielmo selected the material for Anywhere But Here, which included the previously vinyl-only “Monster,” while Raneri assembled Proxima Centauri B around another recovered Killing Time B-side, “Battle Scars.”
The project arrives during a busy year for Bayside, whose lineup also includes guitarist Jack O’Shea. More than two decades after forming in Queens in 2000, the band continues to draw from a catalog that stretches from Sirens and Condolences in 2004 through 2024’s There Are Worse Things Than Being Alive. Albums including The Walking Wounded, Killing Time, Cult, Vacancy and Interrobang have helped carry Bayside through multiple eras while maintaining the songwriting approach and punk foundation associated with the band.
In 2023, Bayside also collaborated with Spencer Charnas of Ice Nine Kills on “How To Ruin Everything (Patience),” which became the band’s first track to chart at SiriusXM Octane.
The archival releases will soon give way to another stretch of live activity. Bayside’s Fall 2026 headline tour is scheduled to begin September 15 at Washington’s in Fort Collins, Colorado, with Driveways and Grave Secrets joining the run.
The itinerary includes festival appearances at Riot Fest in Chicago on September 18 and Four Chord Music Festival in Pittsburgh on September 25. Bayside will also play a Riot Fest aftershow with Motion City Soundtrack at Chicago’s Concord Music Hall on September 19.
The headline run continues through October 10, closing at Mercury Ballroom in Louisville, Kentucky.
