The Ohio metalcore band previews No Place For Me, arriving October 2 via Solid State Records, before joining Born of Osiris for a fall co-headlining tour.
Miss May I have offered another look at their upcoming eighth studio album, No Place For Me, with the video for “Death Threat,” a track centered on confronting personal struggles without allowing them to become ammunition in the hands of others.
The Ohio metalcore band — vocalist Levi Benton, drummer Jerod Boyd, bassist Ryan Neff and guitarist Elisha Mullins — will release No Place For Me on October 2 through Solid State Records. The record marks Miss May I’s debut full-length for the label and follows 2022’s Curse of Existence.
“Death Threat” approaches emotional conflict from the perspective of having personal flaws and darker tendencies turned against someone rather than addressed constructively. Benton described the song as ultimately moving from that difficult situation toward recognition and change.
“‘Death Threat’ is about being held in an emotional chokehold while someone uses your own flaws against you,” Benton said. “Our darker habits deserve to be seen and worked through, not weaponized. The song walks through that worst-case scenario — someone turning your darkness on you — before landing on clarity; finally hearing what needs to be heard and doing what needs to be done.”
The accompanying video was created as a DIY project involving the band. Benton developed the concept, while William Story handled production and directing. Rather than relying on a traditional production setting, filming took place on properties belonging to the band using resources they had available.
That hands-on approach accompanies an album that Benton has characterized as deeply personal. According to the vocalist, writing No Place For Me gave him an opportunity to put long-held emotions into words while examining different stages of his own life.
“No Place For Me is everything I’ve felt for a long time but never had the words for,” Benton said. “Writing it taught me who I actually am even when that hurt to look at. It’s a full journey: Where it started, what I discovered, and where I am today.”
The album will contain 10 tracks, including “Death Threat,” “Sanctuary,” “Portrait of Pain,” “Hand Me A Halo” and “Pray for Silence.”
No Place For Me adds another chapter to a catalog stretching back to the band’s emergence in 2007. Miss May I reached No. 32 on the Billboard 200 with 2012’s At Heart, while Deathless and Shadows Inside later reached the Top 10 on both Billboard’s Top Independent Albums and Top Rock Albums charts. Over the years, the band has also toured alongside acts including Killswitch Engage, Parkway Drive and Motionless In White.
Following the October release of No Place For Me, Miss May I will return to the road in November for The Perpetual Iron Tour, a co-headlining run with Born of Osiris. Convictions and Downswing will join the bill.
The tour is scheduled to begin November 6 at The Crofoot in Pontiac, Michigan, and will travel through the East Coast, Southeast, Texas, Southwest, West Coast and Pacific Northwest before returning through the Mountain and Midwest regions. The itinerary concludes December 19 at Relentless Fest in Dayton, Ohio.
For Miss May I, the combination of No Place For Me and an extensive late-year tour places the band’s next album directly into a live setting shortly after its release, giving fans across the U.S. an opportunity to hear material from the Solid State debut as the group moves into its next era.
