CANDLEMASS, the Swedish pioneers of epic doom metal, mark their 40th anniversary with the release of a new EP titled “Black Star,” available on May 9 via Napalm Records. Pre-orders have started, so don’t miss the opportunity!
The EP includes four tracks that showcase the band’s legendary sound: two new songs and two covers of timeless classics. “Not all bands get to see their 40th birthday, and it certainly hasn’t been an easy ride,” says Leif Edling, the band’s mastermind. “But many ups and downs later, we stand here as survivors, veterans even… a bit scarred perhaps? Still ready, though, to unleash another piece of doom-laden metal upon an unsuspecting world. You have to do something when you turn 40, right? Anyway, as always, it’s been fun recording some new stuff as well as covering a couple of old favorites.”
Among the offerings is the title track “Black Star,” featuring haunting melodies and introspective lyrics brought to life by the voice of vocalist Johan Länquist. Another original, “Corridors Of Chaos,” showcases classic metal riffing and guitar mastery. Additionally, the band covers Black Sabbath’s influential “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath” and Pentagram’s “Forever My Queen,” highlighting their impact on the genre.
