Just over a year after the release of their second LP Distortions, UK doom metal band GODTHRYMM has dropped a surprise two-song EP titled The Light. The new EP is now available for streaming on all major platforms, giving fans more of the heavy, sorrowful sound they crave.
For those unfamiliar, GODTHRYMM is a key player in the classic UK doom metal scene, with roots tracing back to legendary bands like My Dying Bride and Anathema. The band features Hamish Glencross (Vallenfyre, ex-My Dying Bride, ex-Solstice) on guitar and vocals, Catherine Glencross on keyboards and vocals, Bob Crolla on bass, and Shaun “Winter” Taylor-Steels (ex-Anathema, My Dying Bride) on drums.
Taking a short break from their ongoing album trilogy – which started with Reflections in 2020 and continued with Distortions in 2023 – the band offers two fresh tracks outside of that series: “The Light” and “A Promise.” These songs were recorded in a mix of locations, including The Glencross Residence, Sasquatch Music Studio, and The Nave Studio, and were mastered by Mark Midgley at Northern Mastering Company. The artwork was created by Jamie Glencross, adding a visual element to the band’s ever-expanding sound.
Commenting on the new release, Hamish Glencross shared, “We’re excited to bring you more heavy, beautiful metal. These songs bridge the gap between Distortions and our upcoming album Projections. Expect the same blend of heavy riffs, epic harmonies, and melancholic melodies that define our sound.”
