Fargo, North Dakota’s death metal outfit MAUL is gearing up for the release of their crushing second album, In The Jaws Of Bereavement, dropping on October 4th through 20 Buck Spin. Along with this announcement comes the release of their new single “Spontaneous Stigmata” and an intense video filmed during the album’s recording sessions.
In The Jaws Of Bereavement captures MAUL’s raw, live energy. The album’s brutal sound is tailor-made for packed, sweaty clubs where the music and crowd feed off each other, creating an electric atmosphere. The production is sharp and upfront, showcasing the band’s signature fusion of classic death metal with a modern edge. If you’re into bands like Sanguisugabogg, Phobophilic, Fulci, or Gatecreeper, then MAUL’s sound will definitely resonate with you.
The album was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Adam Tucker at Signaturetone Recordings in Minneapolis, a studio known for its work with heavy hitters like Ulthar and Thou. In The Jaws Of Bereavement features stunning cover art by Wyrmwalk and photography by Kary Janousek of Old School Collodion. The album also boasts guest contributions from Hugh Danger on synths and samples, and The Acacia Strain’s Vincent Bennett, who lends his brutal vocals to the title track.
The video for “Spontaneous Stigmata,” shot by Tucker during the recording process, gives fans a raw, behind-the-scenes look at MAUL in their element. Vocalist Garrett Alvarado describes the track as a nod to their earliest songwriting influences, blending driving riffs with a slower, doom-filled section that builds atmosphere through the layered work of guitarists Anthony and Alex.
In The Jaws Of Bereavement will be available in various formats, including LP, CD, cassette, and digital. Preorders are open now through 20 Buck Spin and Bandcamp, where you can also stream both “Spontaneous Stigmata” and the album’s title track featuring Vincent Bennett.

Following the album’s release, MAUL will hit the road for a major US tour supporting I Am and Life Cycles, running from October 16th to November 5th. The band will also play select solo dates to kick off and wrap up the tour. In December, MAUL plans to announce a special album release tour where fans can hear In The Jaws Of Bereavement performed live in full.
