Buffalo-based metal band Until I Wake just unleashed their new single, “The Reverence,” and it’s a heavy hitter. The band—now featuring vocalist Justin Smith, along with Ryan Ridley (bass), August Geitner (guitar), Niko Karras (guitar), and Alex Curtin (drums)—released a fierce lyric video for the track.
“The Reverence” stands out as one of their heaviest songs yet. Packed with brutal double bass drums, vicious screams, and crushing riffs, the song feels like a battlefield. With industrial crunches and raging synths, it’s a full-throttle metal anthem. Produced by Landon Tewers of The Plot In You, this track is a relentless attack from start to finish.
Smith explains, “‘The Reverence’ is a big middle finger to anyone who’s ever tried to hold you back. It’s about pushing past those who doubt you and rising above the negativity.” He adds that the track channels his own frustrations, including those who doubted his place in the band or tried to convince him music was a waste of time.
Guitarist Karras also shared his creative process for the song, revealing, “I wrote the instrumental after an intense workout. The adrenaline carried over into the studio, and we ended up creating the heaviest song we’ve ever made.”
This single follows the band’s recent release of “Hole Hearted,” another intense track.
You can catch Until I Wake on the road this fall, where they’ll be opening for Attila on the About That Life 10-Year Anniversary Tour. They’re also hitting major festivals like Louder Than Life and Blue Ridge Rock Festival.
The deluxe edition of their debut album “Inside My Head” is out now via Fearless Records.
