After taking a break in 2020, Baltimore’s alt-rock band Have Mercy made a strong comeback with their album “NUMB,” released in December 2023 through Rude Records. This album marked an important point in their journey, focusing on themes like perseverance, sobriety, newfound love, and a healthier lifestyle, solidifying their place in the alt-rock scene.
The album was self-produced and mostly recorded in Brian Swindle’s basement, capturing the essence of their early sound. Now, Have Mercy is preparing for the release of ‘Still Numb’ on September 6th, a deluxe version of the album that includes a new single called “Dead Letter” and two acoustic versions of the songs “Numb” and “Alive” from the original release.
Lead vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter Brian Swindle explains, “Dead Letter is about the past and wondering if things would be different if you could change it. Would it really make a difference, or would everything just end up the same?”
Regarding the expanded edition of the album, Swindle says, “‘Still Numb’ was our chance to build on this era of Have Mercy and our album ‘NUMB.’ We got to re-imagine some songs and add a new one. I think ‘Dead Letter’ really captures the new sound of Have Mercy.”
He also adds, “We’re in a really good place now. We’re more involved with our music than ever before, and that’s because we’ve been doing this for so long. We know what it’s like to lose sight of who we are as people and as artists.”
Swindle reflects, “This record was all about us three guys making music because we love it. It’s a challenge to create something special, and it feels a lot like our debut album, ‘The Earth Pushed Back.’”
