For Closure is a relatively new name in the Southern California music scene, but the five seasoned musicians behind it have decades of experience. Formed in 2023, this band brings together members who have been part of the punk rock world for years, playing in countless venues, recording dozens of albums, and touring the country in various projects.
The lineup includes vocalist Gizz Lazlo, who previously drummed for notable punk bands like Dr. Know, U.K. Subs, and The Freeze, alongside guitarist Luis Estefania, who played with F.Y.P., Rhythm Collision, and Buford. Producer and drummer Wal Rashidi (Jr. Juggernaut, Turning Violet), bassist Steve Wilenkin (Dead Man’s Life, I.D.K.), and guitarist Marc Maxey (Sloth Fist, The Killing Flame) round out the group. Together, they’ve taken their deep roots in punk and power-pop to create a sound that feels both familiar and fresh.
For Closure started as a way to finish what Lazlo and Estefania had left behind when their longtime band, For Sale, came to an end. The two still had a stack of unrecorded songs that needed a home, and with the help of Rashidi, they began turning those ideas into fully realized tracks. What was meant to be a one-off project quickly evolved into something bigger when Wilenkin and Maxey joined, solidifying the lineup and launching For Closure as a new band.
Their debut LP, Cliffside Serenades, is set to release on November 8 through Mindpower Records. The album showcases singles like “Carousel” and “Moon at Noon,” which was named the “Coolest Song in the World” by SiriusXM’s Little Steven’s Underground Garage. More recently, the single “Careful What You Wish For” has been added to SiriusXM’s Faction Punk channel, and the band’s tracks have been spinning on college radio stations across the country.
Although For Closure initially saw themselves as a studio band with no plans for extensive live performances, the positive response to their music changed everything. Now, they’ve been hitting stages throughout Southern California, including venues in Los Angeles and San Diego, and even taking their shows to Northern California. The energy and chemistry that the band has created in the studio translate effortlessly to the stage, where they’ve made a strong impression on audiences.
With Cliffside Serenades on the horizon and a growing list of shows under their belt, For Closure is just getting started. Fans of power-pop and punk can expect to see more from this band, with new material already in the works and plans for future performances.
