KINETIC Explore Inner Conflict and Cosmic Ambition With “Dyson” Ahead of Debut Album Liminal

The Danish progressive metal band’s second single pairs psychological isolation with the larger conceptual scope of its 106-minute debut full-length.

Danish progressive metal band KINETIC are expanding the world surrounding their forthcoming debut full-length, Liminal, with “Dyson,” the album’s second single and the latest chapter in its accompanying visual narrative.

The track arrives ahead of Liminal, which is scheduled for release October 16, 2026 through Eclipse Records. Spanning 11 tracks and 106 minutes, the record follows KINETIC’s 2025 debut EP, Sentience, while moving the band toward a considerably larger conceptual framework built around civilization, technological development and humanity’s place in the universe.

Directed by KINETIC keyboardist Marcus H. Levin, the “Dyson” music video approaches those broader ideas from a distinctly personal angle. Rather than concentrating solely on the cosmic themes informing Liminal, the video follows a central character navigating isolation, paranoia and uncertain memories. His perception repeatedly shifts between what he experiences internally and what appears to be happening around him.

An unseen presence follows the protagonist throughout the video, but its significance is psychological rather than that of a literal external threat. The figure represents the character’s unresolved emotions and internal conflicts, connecting the visual story to the song’s examination of how perception can shape human struggles.

“We chose Dyson as a music video because it is one of the album’s most immediately accessible songs,” Levin explained. “At times, the audience is immersed in the central character’s distorted perception of reality; at others they observe him from an external perspective.”

That changing point of view becomes central to the video’s narrative, allowing KINETIC to move between the character’s increasingly unreliable experience and a more detached perspective.

“Throughout the video, the protagonist is persistently haunted by an unseen presence – a manifestation of his own paranoia, inner struggles and unresolved emotions rather than a physical threat,” Levin continued. “The result is a visual journey that blurs the line between reality and perception, reflecting the psychological themes at the heart of the song, which is that many of humanity’s greatest struggles and conflicts originate from within ourselves.”

“Dyson” is the second of three planned music videos connected to Liminal. Its psychological focus also provides another entry point into an album whose larger narrative draws inspiration from the Kardashev Scale, a theoretical method of categorizing civilizations according to the amount of energy they are capable of harnessing.

KINETIC use that framework as the foundation for a concept album that stretches across themes of human advancement, technology and existence. The band has structured Liminal as a continuous overarching story, with its 11 songs collectively tracing that narrative from “Beginnings” through the closing track, “Omega.”

Rather than relying predominantly on conventional verse-and-chorus structures, the album emphasizes longer compositions, evolving arrangements and atmospheric passages designed to accommodate its science-fiction and philosophical subject matter. That scope can also be seen in titles including “Evolution,” “New Frontiers,” “Fermi,” “Progress to One,” “Journey to the Stars” and “Digital Mind.”

For KINETIC, Liminal also represents an important step beyond the band’s first release. Following Sentience in 2025, the upcoming album serves as the group’s debut full-length as well as its first album released through Eclipse Records.

The record was produced, engineered, mixed and mastered by Frederik Uglebjerg, whose credits include Galge, MØL, Trold and Isbjörg. Album artwork was created by Lasse H. Görlitz and Levin.

KINETIC currently consists of René Hougaard on lead vocals, David Thing on guitar and backing vocals, Christian Filskov Heitmann on bass, Levin on synth and Rune Görlitz on drums.

With “Dyson,” the Kolding, Denmark-based group offers a more intimate look at the ideas driving Liminal. The album may take inspiration from humanity’s potential development on a cosmic scale, but its latest single brings that exploration inward, asking what progress means when some of the most difficult conflicts remain inside the individual.
