Italian doom metal band MESSA has officially signed with Metal Blade Records, marking an exciting new chapter in their musical journey.
Known for their unique blend of doom metal infused with Middle Eastern influences, MESSA’s sound features haunting female vocals, ’70s-inspired guitar work, and the enchanting tones of the Arabian Oud. With a diverse range of influences from Dead Can Dance to Electric Wizard, MESSA has evolved from their early occult and noir-inspired doom to a fresh and atmospheric Mediterranean style, which is prominently showcased in their latest album, “Close”.
Formed on January 1, 2014, MESSA began as a collaboration between guitarist/bassist Marco and vocalist Sara, who laid the groundwork for the band’s sound by writing their first songs together. They were soon joined by guitarist Alberto and drummer Rocco, whose varied musical backgrounds contributed significantly to the band’s distinctive style. MESSA released their debut album, “Belfry”, in 2016, followed by extensive touring in Europe and the US. Their sophomore effort, “Feast For Water”, launched them into even more extensive tours, and their recent album, “Close”, released in 2022, received critical acclaim, with Metal Injection describing it as “the sound of a band fleshing out their place in doom metal’s past, present, and future.”
The band has graced renowned festivals such as Hellfest Open Air, Roadburn, and Desert Fest. Their recent live album, “Live At Roadburn”, captures their powerful main-stage performance alongside a unique mix of musicians and instruments, showcasing their ability to blend crushing doom riffs with atmospheric Mediterranean sounds.
