Maine’s atmospheric black metal duo, NAMEBEARER, is gearing up for the release of their debut EP, “Industries Of The Fading Sun”, set to drop on May 2.

Originally conceived as a solo project in 2023 by Brian Tenison (Eave, Obsidian Tongue – live), NAMEBEARER was built on the foundational idea of creating raw and emotionally charged music. Influenced by artists such as Abigor, Circle Of Ouroborus, and Blut Aus Nord, the project quickly evolved. The addition of close friend and collaborator Brendan Hayter, who is known for his work in Obsidian Tongue, Obsequiae – live, and Thrawsunblat, transformed the project when he joined to provide session drums. This partnership was pivotal, bringing forth the release of Demo I, which marked NAMEBEARER’s introduction to the music scene.

Following the demo’s launch, Hayter officially joined as a full-time member, not only commanding the drums but also contributing vocals and synthesizers, enriching the band’s sound. With both musicians engaged in the creative journey, they crafted their first complete artistic statement, resulting in the upcoming EP, “Industries Of The Fading Sun”. This work effectively showcases the duo’s strong synergy while delving into deeper layers of their shared vision.

Radiating a somber and heavy energy, “Industries Of The Fading Sun” evokes visions of a world on the brink of apocalypse. The duo skillfully blends progressive, psychedelic, and atmospheric elements to forge a captivating and immersive auditory experience. The lyrics, originally written in English, were translated into Finnish with help from Veera Anttila, further enriching the band’s evolving and distinctive sound that combines emotional depth with experimental influences.

The band recorded the EP themselves, with Tenison handling the mixing, while Will Killingsworth (The Body, Magic Circle, Magrudergrind) mastered the final product at Dead Air Studios. The artwork, logo, and layout were designed by Shannon Jordan.

The first offering from the EP, titled “Jäätyneen Järven Uumenissa,” is now available for streaming. Tenison explains, “Roughly translating to ‘Depths of the Frozen Lake,’ ‘Jäätyneen Järven Uumenissa’ is a true representation of the mission behind NAMEBEARER. I am heavily inspired by Finnish underground masters such as Circle of Ouroborus, Kêres, and Cosmic Church, for their ability to create enveloping atmospheres through a truly unique and raw expressive lens. No frills, just honest creation. In writing this EP, my focus was to take note of their accomplishments and let them inform me in the hopes of making an equally effective statement of my own. This song also features the only Finnish singing on the EP. My Finnish is certainly a work in progress, but I took great care in translating the lyrics with a native speaker and working on correct pronunciations. Hopefully, I was able to pull it off!”
