OCTOPLOID Unveils Video For “Coast Of The Drowned Sailors (Feat. Tomi Koivusaari)”

OCTOPLOID has revealed their latest lyric video for the track “Coast Of The Drowned Sailors (Feat. Tomi Koivusaari),” closing out a dynamic 2024. The song is part of their debut album, “Beyond The Aeons,” released in July under Reigning Phoenix Music (RPM).

The album boasts collaborations with several renowned guest musicians. “Coast Of The Drowned Sailors” features vocals from Tomi Koivusaari, Olli-Pekka “Oppu” Laine’s fellow member from Amorphis, known for his powerful growls that establish a link to the musical influences from Laine’s past. Accompanying Koivusaari’s intensity, Jani “Joãnitor” Muurinen (Xysma, ex-Mannhai) adds a softer, clean vocal, creating a rich contrast. The track’s consistent psychedelic vibe makes it a favorite among fans and an ideal entry point for newcomers to OCTOPLOID’s ‘70s-inspired death/prog metal sound.

As Oppu describes it, “‘Coast Of The Drowned Sailors’ is a conscious nod to the ‘90s, and the only possible interpreter for it was Mr. Tomi Koivusaari. The track marries the essence of original melodic death metal with elements of slide and acoustic guitar characteristic of southern rock ballads. Also featured is Jani “Joãnitor” Muurinen, the legendary vocalist from the band Xysma, who delivers the more hopeful part of the lyrics. Overall, ‘…Sailors’ is an unapologetically old-school melodic death metal track executed with a modern touch!”

Since their formation in 2022, OCTOPLOID has been on a creative journey culminating in their debut album, “Beyond The Aeons,” released via Reigning Phoenix Music (RPM). Their music uniquely fuses ‘90s death/black metal, ‘70s prog rock, and ‘90s psychedelic rock, establishing a niche in the music scene described as “classic death prog.”

The band is anchored by Laine, alongside a lineup of skilled musicians: Mikko Pietinen on drums, whose experience spans stoner rock with Mannhai and Finnish mainstream pop rock like Kasmir; Peter Salonen on lead and rhythm guitar, known from The Kinky Thing; and Kim Rantala on keyboards (formerly part of Amorphis and Giant Robot).
