The transcontinental trio turn homesickness and personal sacrifice into an atmospheric preview of their Solid State Records full-length.
Save Us are continuing the lead-up to their new album Death To Something with “Far,” an atmospheric track rooted in the emotional strain that came with vocalist Miguel Owls leaving home to make the record.
The transcontinental trio — Owls on vocals, Chris Biddiscombe on guitar and Benji Havercroft on drums — will release Death To Something on October 16 through Solid State Records. The album was produced by Landon Tewers, frontman of The Plot In You.
“Far” arrives with an accompanying music video and captures a particularly personal moment from the recording process. Owls wrote the song after spending an extended period away from home, balancing the opportunity to pursue music with the difficulty of being separated from his wife and familiar surroundings.
“‘Far’ will always hold a special place in my heart,” Owls said. “It came to life right at the halfway point of being away from home while making the album, when the homesickness really started to hit. I was restless, missing everything familiar, and it was the longest I’d ever been away from my wife. This song dives into that feeling, chasing something you’ve always dreamed of, while carrying the weight of being far from the person you love most. It’s that push and pull between purpose and pain.”
That tension between ambition and sacrifice has particular resonance for a band whose existence has depended on overcoming distance from its earliest days.
Save Us began taking shape in 2023 after Owls, who is from California’s Central Valley, started posting cover songs online. Biddiscombe, based in Bristol, U.K., discovered one of Owls’ Architects covers and contacted him through TikTok.
Despite being separated by more than 5,000 miles, the musicians began writing remotely. At the time, Owls was working a factory job from 1 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. and would wake around 5 a.m. to collaborate with Biddiscombe and Havercroft before starting his shift.
The trio had already recorded several songs remotely before meeting in person. Owls eventually traveled to the U.K. to film the video for “Distance,” which appeared on the band’s LUCID EP and has since surpassed 2.6 million Spotify streams, according to the band’s press materials.
Save Us followed with the EXIST EP in 2024 before signing with Solid State Records the following year. The band then traveled to Michigan to work with Tewers on what would become Death To Something.
The circumstances surrounding the band’s formation also inspired its name. According to Owls, all three members had reached a point where they were considering walking away from music before finding one another.
“Chris and Benji were both ready to stop doing music,” Owls explained. “I was in the same boat. We were all on the edge of letting our dreams go. Out of nowhere, we found each other, went all the way in together, and the band genuinely saved us. We’re always dabbling in emotion, so our goal is to reach you on a human level.”
Death To Something will contain 12 tracks, including “Chains,” “Mente Fragmentada,” “Seraphim,” “Bruised,” the title track and “Far.”
One week after the album’s October 16 release, Save Us are scheduled to begin a U.S. tour supporting Saosin. The run opens October 23 at House of Blues Anaheim and continues through late November, covering the West Coast, Southwest, South, East Coast and Midwest before concluding November 28 at SOMA in San Diego.
For a group originally built through remote writing sessions across continents, the combination of a full-length Solid State debut and an extensive national tour marks a substantial next step in turning what began online into a fully realized live band.
