The German heavy metal band’s Metal Blade Records debut arrives August 21, followed by release shows and a European run with Messa.
German heavy metal band The Night Eternal has released the video for “Caught In A Spell,” the latest preview of its upcoming album, Cold Velvet. The eight-track record is scheduled for release on August 21 through Metal Blade Records and will mark the group’s debut full-length for the label.
Built around a steady groove, layered guitar work, and a chorus designed for audience participation, “Caught In A Spell” leans into the road-ready side of the band’s sound. The accompanying video, directed by Robert Piel, follows a Harley-Davidson-riding knight through a cinematic journey shaped by open roads and nighttime imagery.
The band described the song as a soundtrack for late-night driving and connected its atmosphere to feelings of movement, uncertainty, and wanderlust.
“‘Caught In A Spell’ delivers the perfect heavy metal soundtrack for a night drive. Driven by a hypnotic groove and a powerful sing-along chorus, the song evokes images of endless highways and a restless sense of wanderlust, pulling the listener towards the unknown. Director Robert Piel underlines this atmosphere with a striking video clip, following a Harley-Davidson–riding knight through a cinematic road-movie journey.”
“Caught In A Spell” follows the previously released video for “Where This World Ends,” which also appears on the upcoming album.
Formed in 2018, The Night Eternal has developed a style rooted in the guitar-driven heavy metal of the 1970s and 1980s while incorporating darker melodic and atmospheric elements. The band released Moonlit Cross in 2021 and followed it with Fatale in 2023.
Those albums helped expand the group’s touring profile, leading to support appearances with Blind Guardian, Michael Schenker Group, Angel Witch, and Lucifer. The Night Eternal has also performed at festivals including Wacken, Summer Breeze, Hellfest, Alcatraz, and Hell’s Heroes in Houston, Texas.
With Cold Velvet, the group continues developing the mixture of traditional heavy metal, hard rock, and gothic atmosphere heard across its earlier work. According to the album announcement, the new material places particular emphasis on ritualistic rhythms, repeating guitar patterns, prominent melodies, and direct choruses.
The album was recorded between May and December 2025 at Church Of Sound Studios near Munich, Germany. Michael Zech handled production, recording, and mixing. Zech is also the guitarist for Secrets Of The Moon and has worked with artists including Sulphur Aeon, Triptykon, and The Ruins Of Beverast.
The Night Eternal was also selected for the cover of Deaf Forever Magazine, which ranked Cold Velvet first in its soundcheck and highlighted the album’s combination of goth rock, heavy metal, and anthemic hard rock. The publication’s assessment remains an attributed critical opinion rather than an independent claim about the album’s reception.
Several musicians have also commented on the record. Mille Petrozza of Kreator described the group as “gloomy metal from my hometown,” while Johanna Sadonis of Lucifer pointed to the band’s place within the current German heavy metal landscape. Maik Weichert of Heaven Shall Burn praised the album’s emotional range, and S. Castevet of Vulture highlighted its songwriting, production, and vocals.
The album will be issued digitally, on CD digipak, and across several vinyl configurations. The European editions include multiple limited-color pressings, while the United States edition will be available on 180-gram black vinyl.
The band performed at Baden in Blut Festival in Weil am Rhein, Germany, on July 18. Additional shows begin in August, including three German release concerts surrounding the album’s arrival. Later in the year, The Night Eternal will join Messa for a European tour covering France, Spain, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, and Italy.
