The Stuttgart metalcore band pairs heavy breakdowns and melodic hooks with a message centered on self-worth, personal growth, and breaking toxic cycles.
German metalcore band VENUES has released “Becoming,” a new single and accompanying music video built around the process of reclaiming confidence after periods of insecurity and outside pressure.
The track follows the band’s earlier single “Solace” and its latest album, Transience, continuing VENUES’ balance of modern metalcore aggression and emotionally direct songwriting. Musically, “Becoming” moves between dense guitar riffs, forceful rhythms, melodic choruses, and breakdown-driven sections while using the contrast between Lela Gruber’s clean vocals and Robin Baumann’s screams to reflect the song’s internal struggle.
Rather than framing personal growth as an easy or immediate transformation, “Becoming” focuses on the decision to stop allowing past experiences, toxic influences, and social expectations to determine a person’s value. The heavier vocal passages represent the pressure created by insecurity and external judgment, while the melodic sections push toward self-acceptance and a stronger sense of identity.
The lyrics address the removal of “social boundaries” and follow someone attempting to separate their self-image from the expectations of others. That emotional shift gives the track its central narrative: confidence begins when a person stops seeking permission or approval and starts recognizing their own worth.
For VENUES, the single continues a pattern of pairing accessible hooks with heavier instrumentation and personal subject matter. The Stuttgart group has developed its sound around the interplay between melody and intensity, using its dual-vocal format to move between vulnerability, confrontation, and release.
The band released its debut album, Aspire, in 2018 after signing with Arising Empire. The record was selected as a Kerrang! Album of the Week, while later releases allowed VENUES to continue refining its combination of modern production, metalcore breakdowns, and anthemic vocal arrangements.
“Becoming” also arrives as the band prepares for several festival performances in Germany during the summer and early fall. VENUES is scheduled to appear at Munich’s Free & Easy Festival on August 3, followed by Hot Rock Festival 2026 in Hilgertshausen-Tandern on August 28 and Pell-Mell Festival 2026 in Obererbach on September 4.
The three appearances will give the group opportunities to bring “Becoming” into its live set as it continues its current release cycle following Transience.
