South Carolina’s metal/hardcore sensation, YOUR SPIRIT DIES, is making waves with the release of their debut full-length album, “My Gnawing Pains Will Never Rest”, available through MNRK Heavy. Originating from Columbia, South Carolina, a city rich with untold stories, YOUR SPIRIT DIES embodies the relentless energy and spirit of its hometown. Gaining recognition nationwide from platforms like Brooklyn Vegan and No Echo, the band pours their passion and story into this new album.

Vocalist Brandon Byars reflects, “The record encapsulates every single thing we’re about. We’re five people who were born in small towns in the South. We were never supposed to leave these places; we were ‘supposed’ to live and die here. For us, the simple fact we’re doing this is huge. We tried to craft an album that stands on its own, and we busted our asses to make it as different as we possibly could.”

Scott Givens, MNRK’s SVP of Rock and Metal, praises the band’s talent, stating, “YOUR SPIRIT DIES is an amazing young band and they make a great addition to the MNRK Heavy family.”

The members, seasoned through other regional projects like Remembrance and Hopesick, first appeared on the scene in 2020 with their EP “The Process Of Grief”. Their trajectory continued to rise with their next work, “Our Saints Drown In Ash”, earning accolades for tracks such as “2000 Needles.” Critics have praised them for their mastery of the genre’s essentials.

Driving the momentum forward, “My Gnawing Pains Will Never Rest” features powerful tracks like “Serpentine,” which has contributions from Dan Weyandt of Zao, and the intense melody of “Unjust God.” Byars’ vocals question divinity through visceral lyrics, as expressed in lines like “I stare into the eyes of an unjust god.”

Highlighted by their lead single “In The Depths Of Grief,” the band explores themes of aging and personal reflection. Byars shares insights on this emotional journey, “My mom is seventy-one, and she just got back from the hospital. ‘In The Depths Of Grief’ is about watching your loved ones grow older, wither, and eventually die. She isn’t there yet, but she has bad heart problems. When I was a teen, we had our differences. I did the whole rebel thing and got into stuff I probably shouldn’t have. I’m not as angry as I was, so our relationship is definitely better than it’s ever been.”
