Get ready for an emotional journey as HERIN, the progressive and post-rock solo project of Tiles and Discipline guitarist Chris Herin, gears up for the release of his debut album, Hiding In Plain Sight, on November 1st. This ambitious project features a lineup of rock legends, including the recently inducted Rock and Roll Hall of Fame guitarist Peter Frampton, who adds his signature touch to the album’s third single, “The Heart of You.”
This album tells a deeply personal story, chronicling Herin’s experience supporting his father through a decade-long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Hiding In Plain Sight skillfully blends progressive and art rock influences, creating a soundscape that ranges from rich orchestral arrangements to intricate guitar solos. The result is a compelling listening experience that reveals new layers with each play.
To bring this vision to life, Herin enlisted the help of renowned producer Terry Brown, known for his work with Rush, and Grammy-winning mastering engineer Peter Moore, who has worked with icons like Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell. The combination of their talents ensures a polished and dynamic sound that rewards attentive listeners. Accompanying the thoughtful lyrics is eye-catching artwork by Hugh Syme (Rush), which captures the essence of time and place reflected in the music.
The album serves as a reflection on life’s fragility, with each of its eleven tracks representing pivotal moments in Herin’s journey. The music encourages listeners to engage in introspection as they navigate the complexities of existence. The intricate arrangements are adorned with lush vocal harmonies, angular guitar riffs, and ambient orchestrations that create a rich auditory experience.
Hiding In Plain Sight features an impressive array of nearly thirty musicians, including fellow Hall of Famers like Alex Lifeson of Rush, along with members from legendary bands such as Jethro Tull, Saga, and Max Webster. The collaborative nature of this project showcases HERIN’s vision and the exceptional talents of these artists, resulting in a vibrant and expansive sound.
The latest single, “The Heart of You,” is a bright and catchy track that leans slightly into pop-rock territory. With Peter Frampton’s unmistakable guitar work, this song tells a poignant story penned by Herin and his old friend Terry Sampson. Frampton’s personal connection to the lyrics—reflecting on his mother’s battle with dementia—adds an emotional depth that resonates throughout the track. His spirited guitar melodies create a moving backdrop for the song’s bittersweet narrative, culminating in a powerful guitar solo that feels like a triumphant return home.
Chris Herin shared his excitement about the collaboration, recalling how he and Sampson reconnected years after losing touch. “Terry’s career took him to Los Angeles, where he became a successful songwriter. When I discovered he was the same Terry Sampson who wrote for my daughter’s Winnie the Pooh CD, I reached out through social media, and we began working together again. It was incredible to collaborate with a professional songwriter, and having Peter Frampton involved made it even more special!”
The music video for “The Heart of You,” directed by Mathew Kennedy, captures the song’s emotional essence and is sure to resonate with fans.
As HERIN prepares for the release of Hiding In Plain Sight, a portion of the album’s proceeds will be donated to Alzheimer’s charities, adding a layer of purpose to this deeply personal project. Fans can look forward to a captivating blend of heartfelt storytelling and progressive rock excellence when the album drops on November 1st.
