Danish/Faroese progressive metal band IOTUNN has dropped their latest single, “Iridescent Way,” along with a captivating video. This acoustic track offers a softer, more introspective side of the band and will be featured on their upcoming album, Kinship, slated for release on October 25th via Metal Blade Records
Kinship, IOTUNN’s second full-length album, is a powerful exploration of human nature and our deep-rooted connections to everything around us. Across eight tracks, the band dives into themes of unity and disunity, light and dark, and creation versus destruction. The album feels like a journey through time, reflecting on how our choices shape who we are.
Guitarist Jesper Gräs shares his thoughts on the new track: “We’ve wanted to create an acoustic song for years. Jens Nicolai [Gräs] and I both have backgrounds in classical guitar, and this song draws from that, as well as from folk traditions. The intro and outro actually came to me in a dream, and I played it as soon as I woke up. It laid the foundation for the song, which means a lot to us as a band.”
Jens Nicolai agrees, calling “Iridescent Way” a standout on the album. “It’s something we’ve always wanted to do, and now it feels natural for us. This isn’t about pushing boundaries but about doing what feels right.”
The concept behind Kinship is as deep as the music itself. The album follows the story of a prehistoric tribesman navigating life’s many contrasts, from body and mind to nature and culture. With this release, IOTUNN stretches their sound further than ever before, creating what drummer Bjørn Wind Andersen calls “a grand work of heavy metal art.”
“This is the music I’ve always dreamed of playing drums to,” Andersen says. “It’s the band’s finest accomplishment so far, and I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve created together.”
The album artwork was designed by Saprophial (known for work with Hammers Of Misfortune) and put together by Metal Blade’s Brian Ames. Mixing and mastering were done by Jacob Hansen, whose credits include Arch Enemy, Katatonia, and Volbeat.

Kinship will be available on CD, digital, and vinyl in several collectible variants, including Dark Jade Marbled (US) and Teal with Red, Orange, and Yellow Splatter (EU, limited to 300 copies). Other versions include Olive Beige Marbled, 180g Black, and a Bright Orange special edition with an expanded booklet and patch, limited to 1,000 copies in Europe.
