Taking charge of their creative process, the Southern California quartet self-produced and engineered all tracks on their remarkable eighth album, “Tether”. Pauley was responsible for mixing and mastering the album, while Arteaga created the cover art. As their devoted fanbase has come to expect, the band—comprising Pauley, Arteaga, Manansala, and Ashby—infused every note with their passion and life experiences.
“With this one, we weren’t really focused on how it sounded as much as we focused on how it felt,” Pauley explains. “And that’s a weird thing to do when all you’re working with is sound. But that was really the goal. And we walked away from making it, feeling like we’ve accomplished that.”
Of Mice & Men delve into themes of depression, anxiety, loneliness, and existential dread, navigating through the darkness and highlighting creativity as a remedy for mental health issues. Their sound combines the compelling energy of modern active rock with the atmospheric nuances of experimental post-rock, establishing them as pioneers in the future of aggressive rock music.
“Tether” reflects a profound exploration of connection amidst adversity, showcasing what it means to support friends, family, and fellow artists while acknowledging life’s challenges.
Since 2016, the core members—Aaron, Alan, Tino, and Phil—have nurtured a strong relationship with their audience, overcoming various challenges together. Their music resonates whether performed in intimate venues or at large festivals. “It’s about creating moments for people,” Pauley reflects. “Music is the soundtrack to people’s lives.”
