Michigan rock band Pop Evil has released a captivating new rendition of Simple Minds’ iconic ’80s hit “Don’t You (Forget About Me).” The version is stripped back and reimagined through a minimalist lens, stemming from their “unleaded” performance at the SiriusXM Octane album release event. Notably, this is the first time Pop Evil has commercially released a cover song.
Singer Leigh Kakaty shares, “There is such a special story connected to this piece for so many people worldwide. What started off meaningful as one thing, when they were young, now holds a much deeper weight. It’s tied to an entire lifetime of choices, experiences, and moments. We are shining a light on a new way of discovering these lyrics and asking the deepest of questions. A question we all ask: ‘Will we be remembered?’”
The cover will be featured on Pop Evil’s upcoming four-song EP, “Unleaded,” set to release on May 30. This acoustic EP marks a significant shift from their typical sound, exchanging their trademark intense riffs and energy for a more shadowed and nuanced approach, sure to send chills down your spine.

The tracks on “Unleaded” were recorded during an intimate, invitation-only performance in New York City, an event that only a select group of the band’s most dedicated fans experienced. The EP also includes an “Unleaded Version” of their popular single “What Remains,” currently a Top 10 hit on rock radio.
Pop Evil, known for their vigorous live performances and arena anthems, have long been central to the hard rock scene. They’re concluding their current headline tour but will continue to perform at various festivals and fairs this summer, with more tour dates expected later in 2025.
