The Roadrunner Records release features Corey Taylor, Skylar Grey, and Anthony Martinez as the band continues its Sweat and Blood Tour across North America.
Motionless In White released its seventh studio album, Decades, on July 17 through Roadrunner Records, using the record to reflect on 20 years of persistence, experimentation, and growth.
The Scranton, Pennsylvania band also shared a lyric video for “Fight Like Hell” when the album arrived. The song is one of 14 tracks included across the full release, which features guest appearances from Corey Taylor, Skylar Grey, and Anthony Martinez of Dark Divine.
For vocalist Chris Motionless, the album carries a particularly personal connection to the band’s history.
“I can’t believe it’s finally the day to release DECADES into the world,” Motionless said at the time of release. “No other record means as much to me personally as this one does. The past two-and-a-half years of working on it have been some of the best and most challenging years of my career creatively, but integral to the story of what makes MIW the band that it is. 20 years of nothing but raw determination is what you will find on this record and I’m so grateful for every day we get to keep living our dreams.”
Decades arrives as Motionless In White looks back on its development from a regional heavy band into an arena-level touring act. Over that period, the group has built its identity around a mixture of metal, hardcore, goth, industrial, and electronic influences, supported by an increasingly theatrical visual presentation.
The new album was recorded in Upstate New York and Los Angeles with co-producers Drew Fulk and Justin “JD” deBlieck. According to the band, the sessions were designed to connect different periods of Motionless In White’s sound rather than separating its earlier aggression from its more recent experimentation.
That approach is reflected in the album’s guest list. Corey Taylor appears on “Playing God,” Skylar Grey is featured on “R.I.P.,” and Anthony Martinez contributes to “Blood Rave.” An alternate version of “Fight Like Hell” featuring Outlier is also included as a bonus track.
Motionless described the album as both a continuation of the band’s established identity and a refusal to remain creatively static.
“We were never afraid to take risks,” he said. “This band has not only lasted two decades, but we’ve also outlasted all of the obstacles we’ve faced. We’re still grinding. No matter how far we expand the universe that is Motionless In White, we’re going to preserve the heart, soul, and roots of where we came from.”
He added that the band remains committed to emotionally direct and heavy songwriting, even as its production, visuals, and arrangements continue to evolve.
“We are never going to abandon heartfelt, emotional, and heavy songs. We are never going to abandon what mattered to us the most when we started. We’re finding new ways to emphasize those stories with exciting sounds and looks, but the vision is the same. It’s always been this grand, dramatic, and theatrical entity. I’m proud we haven’t gotten comfortable.”
According to Motionless, the album also reflects a more confrontational emotional tone than some of the group’s previous material.
“Decades is definitely heavier than some of our past albums. Our current world bred more aggressive energy, anger, and resistance.”
The album release coincided with the opening stretch of The Sweat and Blood Tour, Motionless In White’s first American headlining run in nearly three years. The tour began July 14 in Bridgeport, Connecticut, with Lorna Shore, Fit For A King, and Static Dress joining the summer leg.
The tour has already made stops in Bristow, Mansfield, Charlotte, Alpharetta, Irving, Houston, and Austin. The remaining summer dates resume July 28 in Albuquerque before continuing through August 15 in Sterling Heights, Michigan.
The run includes the band’s first headlining appearance at Red Rocks Amphitheatre on August 9, adding a notable milestone to the group’s current touring cycle.
A second leg begins October 30 in Worcester, Massachusetts, with Dayseeker serving as direct support. The Devil Wears Prada and Dark Divine will also appear throughout the fall run, which continues through November 20 in Pittsburgh.
The album and tour together place Decades at the center of Motionless In White’s 20th-anniversary period, tying the group’s history to a schedule that reaches some of the largest venues of its career.
