Mongolian folk rock innovators continue building momentum as HUNapproaches its July release and major international tour dates remain on the horizon.
The HU have unveiled the official music video for their latest single, “Grey Hun,” offering another preview of the Mongolian band’s upcoming third studio album, HUN. The record is scheduled for release on July 24 through Better Noise Music, marking the group’s first full-length album since 2022’s Rumble of Thunder.
The new track further showcases the band’s distinctive blend of traditional Mongolian instrumentation, throat singing, and modern rock, a style they have branded as “Hunnu Rock.” While maintaining the cultural influences that helped introduce the band to a global audience, “Grey Hun” centers on a message of individuality and self-acceptance.
Speaking about the song, band member Enkush explained how the composition evolved.
“Grey Hun” is a song that encourages everyone to be comfortable with just being themselves. It started with composing the riff as I imagined a man riding his horse through a vast landscape. From there, it took a while for us to finish the song because we wanted to make sure to clearly communicate the positive message of the song.”
“Grey Hun” follows the release of “Lost Soul,” a collaboration featuring Jonny Hawkins of Nothing More. According to the announcement, the single has continued gaining traction on Active Rock radio and represents the first collaboration between the two artists.
The forthcoming album HUN expands on the musical identity that has defined The HU since the band first gained widespread international attention in 2019. Across 11 tracks, the record draws inspiration from Mongolian history, folklore, and cultural traditions while continuing to merge those influences with contemporary rock and metal.
Reflecting on the upcoming release, the band shared their excitement about completing the project while also looking toward the future.
“We took our time to do this right, and we’re so glad that we’re almost ready to release what we have worked on these past few years. Now, we are also focusing on the performances and working out a brand-new setlist. We want to play bigger venues so we can do extensive production, and bring in some amazing elements of our culture, and play these ideas to our fans. And, as well as our third album, we have some amazing ideas for another album already!”
The HU recently concluded a North American headlining tour but will return to the road in the coming weeks with several high-profile performances. The band’s schedule includes an appearance alongside Iron Maiden at EddFest before joining Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson, and Orgy for a North American run beginning in August. After those dates, The HU will head overseas for a UK and European headline tour with support from Skáld.
Since emerging onto the international stage, The HU have become one of the most recognizable acts to successfully blend traditional cultural music with modern heavy rock. Their distinctive use of the morin khuur, tovshuur, tumur khuur, tsuur, and Mongolian throat singing has helped establish a sound unlike any of their contemporaries while earning a growing worldwide fanbase.
With HUN set to arrive in July and an extensive touring schedule extending through Europe this fall, the band continues to build on its global presence while introducing new music that remains rooted in its cultural identity.
